The Not So Well-Known Benefits Of Irobot Vacuum

The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Robot vacuums eliminate pet hair, lint, and dust from the floor before they settle. They also can avoid obstacles like stairs and other obstructions, including tippy furniture.

Most robotic vacuums require regular maintenance. This involves emptying the bin (and occasionally, rinsing it) and wiping the sensors and cameras. They also need to be connected. Many have smartphone apps for scheduling, adjusting setting and more.

iRobot Roomba 960

The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent of a series of top-of-the-line robot vacuums, is an essential for every modern home. This model is equipped with a HEPA-filter that will assist those who suffer from allergies. On top of that it has a strong battery that can clean up to two hours and it will return to its dock once its bin is full.

It also comes with a feature called smart mapping which uses multiple sensors to determine the areas of your home that require attention and make a tidy route around them. We’ve seen this technology in action and it does a good job of maneuvering around toys that have been placed on the floor or furniture legs that are sticking out of the ground. It also has a camera sensor that can snap the Roomba back to the real world when it begins to drift away from its original location.

iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers under the Roomba’s bottom that do not have bristles, and thus tend to resist tangles more than earlier models. They are also taller and robotvacuummops can be tucked under low couches or beds. They’re designed to make this model more movable on various floor types.

What sets the Roomba 980 apart from other models with a higher-end price tag, though, is its integration of the new dirt detection feature, which uses cameras to detect bits of embedded dirt. This is a great improvement over the previous version, which relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around a room and clean everything at least three times from different angles.

In our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. It scored highly on carpets with a low pile, and on mid-pile. It was successful in picking up pet hair but had a difficult time with the long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

Despite these slight limitations, the Roomba 980 remains one of our best-performing robots, and isn’t even nearly as expensive as the other top models on this list. It comes with many of the features you’d expect from a flagship model, but doesn’t come with all the fancy apps or smart home integration that you’ll see in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and get working immediately. After removing the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all you need to connect it to its Home Base docking station or an outlet on the wall, press its big “Clean” button, and let it go to work. It will automatically return to its dock when its battery is out or is full of debris, and it has indicators on the top to indicate when its bin is full or it’s time to recharge or if its Wi-Fi signal is not working.
